Critiques, anyone?

Sun Mar 26, 2006, 3:37 AM
Okay, let's try something new.

If you would like a serious critique on your work, feel free to contact me via guestbook, note, post in this journal, or whatever. I try to check DA as often as I can, at least once a day, so chances are I'll read your message not too long after you've sent it. However, since I am in college - art college, at that - I have a busy schedule and might not get to actually critiquing right away. However, I will make sure I have commented at on your work as soon as I can.

I encourage any artist - no matter the skill level - to send me or anyone else who is offering crits a note. Please keep in mind that if you feel that your art is "unworthy," don't feel bad; it takes practice to acheive the kind of skill you're aiming for. There are always chances of improvement, no matter what you feel your skill level is. It should also be noted that everyone draws differenty; someone might do better doing abstract art rather than a fully rendered human body and vice versa. I also encourage said artists to look for their own style of art. (I consider my style of art to be a mix between an anime and realistic approach, for I enjoy drawing in a style that is neither too complicated nor too simple.)

I "specialize" in the human figure, photography, designs, colored work done on the computer, and drawings in general. I use Adobe Photoshop CS2, have never used Flash, and know the basics of Adobe Illustrator. I am very biased towards the classical canon and don't quite understand cubism. I'm not that familiar with abstract art, but I'm more than willing to give it a try.

When I comment and vote on your piece, I base my crits on your current skill level from what I have seen in your gallery and previous pieces. (However, if you have only one piece in your gallery, I try to base it on information that I get from your profile and/or your piece's description.) I also "grade" your work on knowledge of your own potential, as well as the fact that you can and will get better. I do this to help the artist get better at their own pace, and not by someone else's.

I do not write "bad things" about your pictures to bash you as an artist; I write them so you can take a good, serious look at your own work and think about what I have written and whether or not you agree. My crits are based on my own knowledge; they may be helpful to your work or simply off the mark. You shouldn't base all of your work on my comments; I may be wrong in some fields, as they are, after all, in the end, my opinions. No matter how much you feel that my comments seem" right", there are still - no change whatsoever - my OPINIONS, and therefore will be biased to my own thinking. (Hint: It's usually best to get second opinions.) Whether or not you want to take my crits seriously or even at all is up to you.

If there is a particular piece or pieces that you want me to crit on, link them in your message and I'll get to it right away. If you simply want a general crit on your whole gallery, mention this and I'll post in your guestbook. If you want to keep my crits private, then I will have no problem in sending a note.

I hope you will find my reviews and comments helpful and encouraging. :3

Note: I might add more to this journal entry later on when I come up with more stuff to say. If you do not mind handing out critiques as well and want your name added here, then send me a message or post in this journal, and I'll add you asap.

 But of course~! Would you like your crits toasted with a medium flare or well done with a hint of lime zest?

But in seriousness, is there a particular deviation you want a crit on, or just any one in your gallery? Or do the gallery as a whole...? (I should probably add that into the journal, hmm...)

heh :] I'll take the medium flare...

I'd like the whole gallery, but obviously we're talking about your time so as much as you would like. Browse through and comment at will... I don't have any particular deviation that I'm "working on" per se... just more in a spot where I'd like an actual evaluation of rights and wrongs...

Oh, and I'd also like lots of "OMFG!!!!1111 that is teh aw3s0me!!111" comments... :]

Mmhh... I wonder what would you say about this:

It is not abstract, but it is not based on something observable in reality either. The thing I would most like to know is...
Do you feel the picture stands up for its title?.

Hello there, I would like critiques... but my gallery has no drawn art, but written content. The thing is, most people don't like to read on a computer, so they just don't take a look. This is, of course, a mistake if generalized, as there ARE very good, and very read, written works. With that said, in adition to all my content being written, most of it is on spanish, my native language. Because of that, I don't get too much comments, but, nevertheless, i've got some written in english, and I would like a comment on one of them. I don't mind which. And i don't mind if this is not your speciality :)
